Wish lists are very important in helping nonprofits meet their operational needs and educating supporters on ways they can get involved. As we move closer bringing home the USS CHARLES F. ADAMS (DDG-2), we have several opportunities for supporters to be engaged in our project. Can you help us with any of the below items?

1.  Warehouse Storage. We have a need for 400 – 600 sq. ft. of temporary warehouse-like storage to house acquisitions of non-hazardous, shipboard materials, artifacts and display equipment until we can exhibit them on board and restore the USS CHARLES F. ADAMS (DDG-2). General warehouse shelving would be a huge plus, so we can safety and adequately stack and use the space vertically. Access to space will be needed on a scheduled and advance-notice basis to facilitate curatorial inventory and display planning purposes. Full partnership benefits, to include marketing, are available.

2.  Project and Committee VOLUNTEERS. Many folks need community service projects to fulfill education and other needs, including the just plain old “making a difference because it makes one feel good.”  Restoring a warship and creating a world-class attraction is an expensive and manpower intensive ordeal. During our pre-staffing period, we need volunteer project leads to manage several efforts and projects. Positions include: Volunteer Program Manager, Membership Campaign Manager, Membership Fulfillment Volunteers, Website Content and Blog support, Fundraising and Event Manager. Get involved and make a difference whether it be for a few hours once, or you can devote 4 – 20 hours per week to fill a resume gap, establish a relationship for future opportunities or just because it is who you are… If so, then PLEASE CONTACT US ASAP!

3.  Corporate Sponsorship. The USS ADAMS Museum will be at the forefront of the revitalization movement at the Downtown Shipyards and the first business to open on its property in over 30 years. If you are part of a business or organization company or know of a company that is committed to giving back to the Jacksonville community and want to be a part of the future of Downtown then we would love to speak with you about sponsorships, co-working, revenue partnership and cross-marketing opportunities at every level.

4.  Volunteers Docents at the USS ADAMS Museum Visitor Center/Ship’s Store. The JHNSA has operated an USS ADAMS Museum Visitor Center (VC) and Ship’s Store in The Jacksonville Landing for six years.  The staff has been all volunteers! Do you like to tell stories or just meet and greet/engage visitors? The VC is an easy opportunity to share the mission of The USS ADAMS Museum with visitors and local residents and assist in selling the gear! Guests get to see and touch a small collection of artifacts and learn about the history of the ADAMS-CLASS of guided missile destroyers.  This is a great opportunity to engage kids and students.  Supporters of the ADAMS can purchase military gear including challenge coins, flags, Navy jewelry, and over 700 different military ball caps from various campaigns, service branches and commands. VC Docents allow us to keep the store open, spread awareness about our project, collect donations, and ring up sales. It is an easy, low-impact and highly social volunteer opportunity. Volunteer Service of 4 – 20 hours a week, (try it once and see if you like it) would help us greatly and help satisfy any “community volunteer/service” requirements in a cool, comfortable and relaxed atmosphere.

5.  Office Supplies: Gift cards to office supply stores. Our office is periodically in need of general office and administrative supplies. If you have any office supply store gift cards or general supplies (such as printer paper, tape, storage containers, etc.) that you could donate to us then please let us know. This helps us keep our operating expenses low, so we can focus on investing our resources to promoting and restoring the ship.

If you have any of the above items or interests then please email us at [email protected].
