ADAMS OUTREACH. We’ve reached another milestone to BRING HOME THE ADAMS! On April 30, Jacksonville’s Downtown Investment Authority selected Iguana Investments to negotiate the sale and development of the Shipyards property. Iguana is the master development firm owned by Shad Kahn, the owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars. JHNSA has begun coordinating with Iguana regarding the timeline for berthing the USS CHARLES F. ADAMS (DDG-2) at the Shipyards.

In the meantime, we continue to build support and raise funds to bring home our ship. The following is a snapshot of some of the events we have going on this month.

May 6 – The USS ADAMS Museum was invited to speak at the DDG-17/DD-371 USS CONYNGHAM crew reunion in Savannah, Ga. We updated them on the status of our project, and during the event the USS Conyngham Association agreed to donate their USS Conyngham (DDG-17) History Collection to our museum and presented us with a $500 donation.

May 7 – Our STEM program went on the road to visit Mayport Elementary Coastal Sciences Academy for a night of science fun at their 5th Annual Family Night of Science. The fun began at 6 p.m. and, with the help of our fabulous volunteers, we were able to raise awareness about The USS ADAMS Museum by supporting STEM within our community.

May 11 – Southwest Citizens Planning Advisory Committee got an update on The USS ADAMS Museum at Florida State College at Jacksonville, Kent Campus.

May 15 -The First Coast Commandery of the Naval Order will hold their annual USS STARK (FFG-31) remembrance ceremony for the former crew and their families at Naval Station Mayport’s Memorial Park at 10 a.m. Please come out to pay your respects to the 37 crewmen who were killed in action and learn about this historic ship.

May 22Chick-fil-A is honoring us with a USS ADAMS Museum Day! The Chick-fil-A at Butler Pointe Plaza will salute The USS ADAMS Museum by allowing to fundraise at their store. ALL DONORS will receive a Digital Discount Card for a future food purchase! So, stop by Chick-fil-A at 7147 Philips Highway, Jacksonville (JTB and US-1), FL 32256, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. for a meal and to donate to the ADAMS.

May 22 – 25 – AARP will salute The USS ADAMS Museum and other local veterans on their Salute to Veterans Wall of Honor during the 2015 Jacksonville Jazz Festival. Make sure to stop by their booth at the Shipyards property (the future home of the ADAMS) during Jazz Fest and thank them for their support.

May 25 – The City of Jacksonville will honor fallen veterans at a Memorial Day ceremony held at the Veterans Memorial Wall beginning at 9 a.m. In addition, the Navy Band Southeast will perform at the pre-ceremony beginning at 8:30 a.m. This is a great event to honor our veterans. Please come out and bring the family.
