We had a great time during the City of Jacksonville’s Week of Valor, that happening Nov. 7 – 21, throughout the city.
Approximately 150,000 veterans and 50,000 active duty military and department of defense employees call Jacksonville their home. Week of Valor focused on veterans living in the Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia areas with several events to honor them and provide resource tools to help those in need.
The USS ADAMS Museum was proud to honor our veterans at the 4th Annual Salute to Veterans 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run Nov. 8 outside The Jacksonville Landing. More than 500 runners signed-up to attend the run presented by the CHASE and the Jacksonville Historic Naval Ship Association. Thank you to CHASE for your $10,000 donation to help us BRING HOME THE ADAMS!

The run kicked off with a thank you to our veterans and singing of our military’s service songs.
The ship’s bell from the former USS Charles F. Adams (DDG-2) rang the official start to the run!

“We need more Cowbell!” Thank you CHASE for donating the cowbells to cheer on our runners and to all of our volunteers for coming out to help.
Jacksonville University NROTC was the first team to cross the finish line.
The Jacksonville Team Red, White and Blue organization took home the largest team award at the run.

On Nov. 10, we were at the Florida Defense Expo at the Prime F. Osborn III Convention Center. The Expo offers an ideal opportunity to bring military and other organizations together with businesses dedicated to providing high quality products and services to our warfighters and first-responders. We had a wonderful time speaking with the professionals at the expo and listening to Congressman Ander Crenshaw speak and visit all of the booths.

During Veterans Day, we were invited to march in the City of Jacksonville’s Veterans Day Parade and started the parade with the ringing the ship’s bell from the USS Charles F. Adams (DDG-2). The parade was a fantastic way to raise awareness for The USS ADAMS Museum. We handed out around 4,000 wristbands, 1,000 Sailor hats and took more than a few photos with the thousands of spectators that came out to Downtown Jacksonville for the parade. Eighteen volunteers came out to march for The USS ADAMS Museum during the City of Jacksonville’s Veterans Day Parade.
It was a beautiful day and thanks to Snyderman, with Snyder Heating and Air Conditioning, he keep us super “cool” among the parade attendees.
Our wristbands and Sailor hats were a big hit with the thousands of attendees that came out to watch the parade.
The real USS Charles F. Adams (DDG-2) may still be in Philadelphia but our cardboard replica proudly sailed down the streets of Jacksonville.
Overall, it was all smiles as we finished the parade and City of Jacksonville Week of Valor support!
