Corr Digital and 1st Place Sports helped The USS ADAMS Museum suit up as a special participant for the Gate River Run March 14.  Thanks to both organizations, the museum had a one-of-a-kind USS CHARLES F. ADAMS (DDG-2) cardboard replica to raise awareness for our cause during the Gate River Run  and Runner’s Expo at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds March 12 and 13.

The cardboard ship replica was designed and constructed by Corr Digital to contain two runners and be light enough to carry throughout the challenging 15K course. The printing and design company also worked with the runners to install special body harnesses and storage compartments to hold supplies for the run.

“It has been a true pleasure to work with Client Focused Media and Jacksonville Historic Naval Ship Association in supporting the campaign efforts to bring the ADAMS home. This ship’s arrival proves that nothing is too big for Jacksonville and her backbone of loyal businesses. What an incredible opportunity to participate in Jacksonville’s future notoriety to ‘Grow Jax Strong.’ Go USS ADAMS Musem!,” said Tammy Campagnola, Account Executive at Corr Digital, about why her company volunteered to support the museum.

This was not the first time the museum partnered with 1st Place Sports. For the last three years, the two organizations have coordinated the annual Salute to Veterans Run. This event honors military veterans with a 5K run that benefits The USS ADAMS Museum and is held the Sunday before Veterans Day on the Downtown Riverwalk.

Our runners, Carey Helper (Account Executive for Client Focused Media) and Bobby Green (Jacksonville Running Company) were well-received by the over 16,000 runners and the many spectators that watched the event. Beverly Hecht (pictured left in purple tank top), who is a long time friend of Hepler, ran alongside our ship to keep our runners motivated and on track to finish. Our “Charlie Deuce” team finished strong at 1 hour 48 minutes to win the Open Boat division. (However, it didn’t hurt being the only ship sailing through The Gate River Run.)

USS ADAMS Museum CEO Joe Snowberger was thrilled for the exposure. “This is just another great example of the Jacksonville community supporting the effort to BRING HOME THE ADAMS!  Many kudos to the idea man, Carey Helper of Client Focused Media, Corr Digital for their creation, and the race gurus at 1st Place Sports!”

The USS ADAMS Museum is currently fundraising to bring home the USS CHARLES F. ADAMS (DDG-2) to Jacksonville and restore her as Florida’s first naval warship museum. The ship is expected to be in Jacksonville this summer and open to the public late this year. Those interested in donating to “BRING HOME THE ADAMS!” can do so on our Crowdrise page at www.crowdrise.com/BRINGHOMETHEADAMS or visit www.ussadams.com/donate to learn more.
